Noun: Person, Place, Things and Idea.

1. Person

  • teacher, doctor, Maria
2. Place

  • school, park, city
3. Things

  • book, phone, chair
4. Idea

  • love, happiness, freedom

Pronoun: Is a word that replaces a noun in a sentence.

Instead of repeating a noun:

  • Maria is kind. She is kind.
    “She” replaces Maria

  • The boys are here. They are here.
    “They” replaces the boys


Verb: A word that shows an action, state or condition of a noun or pronoun.


Actions: run - "She runs fast."




Adjective: Is a word that describes or gives more information about a noun (a person, place, thing, or idea).

  • a big house
  • a happy child
  • a blue car
  • a delicious meal



Adverb: Is a word that describes or gives more information about a verb, adjective, or another adverb.

  • She runs quickly.
  • He speaks loudly.

  • I will go tomorrow.
  • They arrived early.

  • Come here.
  • He looked everywhere.

  • I always eat breakfast.
  • She sometimes plays games.

Conjunction: Is a word that connects words, phrases, or sentences.

  • I like coffee and tea.
  • She is tired but happy.
  • You can stay or go.

Interjection: Is a word or short phrase that shows strong emotion or reaction (feelings).

  • Wow! That’s amazing. 
  • Oh! I forgot my keys.
  • Ouch! That hurts. 
  • Yay! We won! 
  • Oops! I made a mistake.


Article: Is a word that comes before a noun to show whether the noun is specific or not specific.


Article = “small word before a noun”


  • a dog (any dog, not a specific one)
  • a car
  • a teacher
  • an apple
  • an egg
  • an hour (silent “h” makes vowel sound)
