The Day in the Wood

One summer, my family decided to go on a hiking trip in the mountains. The weather was perfect—clear skies, a gentle breeze, and just the right amount of sunshine. We packed our bags with snacks, water, and a map, then set off on the trail.

At first, everything went smoothly. We followed the path, admired the towering trees, and listened to the birds singing. But after an hour, my dad decided to take a “shortcut.” He insisted that he remembered a faster way to the waterfall. We trusted him and followed without question.

After walking for what felt like forever, we realized we were completely lost. The trail was gone, and we had no idea where we were. My mom pulled out the map, but we couldn’t figure out our location. Just when panic started to set in, we heard voices in the distance. A group of hikers was passing by, and we asked them for help. Thankfully, they knew the way and led us back to the main path.

By the time we got back to our car, we were exhausted but relieved. My dad laughed and promised never to take another shortcut again. Of course, we never let him forget about that adventure!
