One vocabulary strategy I tried today was using context clues to understand new words while reading an article. Instead of immediately looking up unfamiliar words, I tried to guess their meanings based on the surrounding text.
I read an article about sustainable development, and I encountered the word "mitigate." Based on the sentence, "Governments are implementing policies to mitigate the effects of climate change," I guessed that "mitigate" means to reduce or lessen something. After checking the dictionary, I found that my guess was correct!
This strategy worked well for me because it helped me engage with the text more actively. I also learned other new words, like "resilience" and "carbon footprint."
