Noun

Definition: A word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.
Examples: Kate, Nigeria, love, table, success
Types:

  • Proper Noun – Kate, Abuja

  • Common Noun – book, car

  • Abstract Noun – happiness, strength

  • Collective Noun – team, group


2. Pronoun

Definition: A word that replaces a noun.
Examples: he, she, it, they, you, we


3. Verb

Definition: A word that shows action or a state of being.
Examples: run, sing, is, have, decide
Types:

  • Action Verb – eat, write

  • Linking Verb – is, seem

  • Helping Verb – has, will, was


4. Adjective

Definition: A word that describes or modifies a noun.
Examples: beautiful, nervous, honest, large


5. Adverb

Definition: A word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb. It often answers howwhenwhere, or to what extent.
Examples: quickly, very, yesterday, always


6. Preposition

Definition: A word that shows the relationship between a noun (or pronoun) and another word in the sentence.
Examples: in, on, under, beside, to, with


7. Conjunction

Definition: A word that joins words, phrases, or clauses.
Examples: and, but, because, although
Types:

  • Coordinating – and, but, or

  • Subordinating – because, although, if


8. Interjection

Definition: A word or phrase that expresses strong emotion or sudden feeling.
Examples: Oh!, Wow!, Ouch!, Hey!
