Today, I decided to try the “context clues” strategy to build my vocabulary. While reading an English article, I focused on trying to understand new words based on the sentences around them instead of immediately using a dictionary.

One of the new words I learned was “resilient.” The sentence said: “Despite the challenges, the community remained resilient and hopeful.” From the context, I guessed that resilient meant strong or able to recover quickly—and when I checked the dictionary later, I was right!

Another word was “allocate,” which appeared in the sentence: “The manager decided to allocate more resources to the new project.” I guessed it meant to give or assign, and that was also correct.

Did it work?
Yes! Using context clues helped me understand the meaning of new words without interrupting my reading too much. It also made me feel more confident in my guessing skills. I plan to keep using this strategy in future reading.
