Context Clues

Today, I decided to focus on using context clues as a strategy to enhance my vocabulary. I chose this method because it allows me to infer the meanings of unfamiliar words based on the surrounding text, which can be very helpful in understanding the overall message.

While reading an article, I encountered the word "ubiquitous." The sentence was: "Smartphones have become ubiquitous in modern society, appearing in the hands of people everywhere." By analyzing the context, I noticed that the word was used to describe smartphones and that it suggested they are found everywhere. From this, I inferred that "ubiquitous" means "present or existing everywhere."

This strategy worked well for me! Not only did I learn the meaning of "ubiquitous," but I also became more aware of how context can provide hints about unfamiliar words. I plan to continue using context clues in my reading to build my vocabulary further.

Overall, I found that relying on context clues not only helps me understand new words but also enhances my reading comprehension. I encourage everyone to try this strategy as it can be quite effective!
