While reviewing the Parts of Speech resources, I came across a few sentences that really stood out to me and helped reinforce the function of different word types in a sentence. Here are two examples that I found both helpful and informative:

Sentence 1:
"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
This sentence is commonly used to show all the letters in the alphabet, but it’s also a great example of different parts of speech in action.

  • TheArticle (a type of determiner)

  • Quick, brown, lazyAdjectives (describe nouns)

  • Fox, dogNouns (person, place, thing, or idea)

  • JumpsVerb (action)

  • OverPreposition (shows relationship/location)

Sentence 2:
"She ran quickly because she was late."
This sentence helped me understand how conjunctions and adverbs function.

  • ShePronoun (replaces a noun)

  • RanVerb (action)

  • QuicklyAdverb (modifies the verb “ran”)

  • BecauseConjunction (connects two clauses)

  • WasVerb (linking verb)

  • LateAdjective (describes the subject “she”)
