While reviewing the Parts of Speech resources, I came across a few sentences that really stood out to me and helped reinforce the function of different word types in a sentence. Here are two examples that I found both helpful and informative:


Sentence 1:

"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."

This sentence is commonly used to show all the letters in the alphabet, but it’s also a great example of different parts of speech in action.


The – Article (a type of determiner)


Quick, brown, lazy – Adjectives (describe nouns)


Fox, dog – Nouns (person, place, thing, or idea)


Jumps – Verb (action)


Over – Preposition (shows relationship/location)


Sentence 2:

"She ran quickly because she was late."

This sentence helped me understand how conjunctions and adverbs function.


She – Pronoun (replaces a noun)


Ran – Verb (action)


Quickly – Adverb (modifies the verb “ran”)


Because – Conjunction (connects two clauses)


Was – Verb (linking verb)
