The first grammar lesson in English as a second language is part of speech. There are eight parts of speech that really important to improve English skill.
1. Noun is a word used to identify any of a class of people, places, or things. There are some types of noun such as countable noun, uncountable noun, common noun, proper noun, collective and compound noun. Noun usually used with article (a, an, the).
2. Adjective describes noun or pronoun. Standard usage of adjectives is Adjective + Noun.
3. Pronoun is a word that take a place on noun. A pronoun is always capitalized and not use with articles.
4. Verb expresses an action or state of being. The examples of action verb are read, cook, walk, run, fly, etc. Meanwhile the state of being's example are be, is, am, are, feel, appear, seem, etc.
5. Adverb describes verb, adjective, or other adverb. Two types of adverb are regular adverb and irregular adverb. Regular adverb usually ends with ly meanwhile irregular adverb doesn't follow by ly.
6. Proposition shows a relationship of a place, time or location between noun or pronouns and the rest of a sentence. Common propositions are added in front of a noun, noun phrase, or pronoun to add extra information such as are, in, on, at, to.
7.Conjunction is used to connect words, phrases and sentences. Three types of conjunction are coordinating, subordinating, and correlative conjunction. There are six coordinating conjunctions: For, and, but, or, yet, so.
8. Interjection is a spoken or written expression of emotion like wow, ouch, argh. These expression rarely use in written English because they considered as casual expressions that only used in casual conversation.
