Vocabulary Strategy: Context Clues
I tried the Context Clues strategy today. Instead of using a dictionary, I guessed the meaning of new words by looking at the sentences around them.
Did it work? Yes, it worked well! It helped me read faster and understand the main ideas without stopping.
New words I learned:
- Ancestors: Family members who lived before us.
- Aboriginal: Relating to the first people to live in an area.
- Preserve: To keep something alive or safe from being lost.
Sentence Analysis
- Sentence Patterns: I used S-V-O ("I tried the strategy") and S-V-C ("It worked well").
- Sentence Types: I used Declarative sentences and a Complex sentence starting with "Instead of...".
