Noun = used to name an object, person, place, idea, or action. In a sentence, a noun can function as a subject, direct object, indirect object, subject complement, or prepositional object.

Example: a dog, an apple, a book

Adjective = used to explain, describe, or limit a noun or pronoun that is still common.

Example: faster, largest, shortest

Pronoun = used to replace a noun in a sentence to avoid repetition.

Example: she, he, it

Verb = used to describe what the subject does in a sentence.

Example: swim, sing, work

Adverb = used to explain or provide additional information about a verb, attribute, or adverb in a sentence. However, adverbs never describe nouns.

Example: well, just, quickly

Conjunction = used to connect words, clauses, or phrases from one sentence to another.

Example: for, and, or

Preposition = used to show the relationship between a noun or pronoun and several other words in a sentence.

Example: after, before, during

Interjection = used to express someone's emotions towards a situation or action.

Example: hey!, wow!, oops!
