Here are the nine parts of speech in English:


1. Nouns : Words that refer to people, places, things, and ideas.

Examples: dog, city, teacher, happiness


2. Verbs : Words that express actions, events, or states of being.

Examples: run, eat, think, be


3. Adjectives : Words that modify or describe nouns or pronouns.

Examples: happy, blue, big, loud


4. Adverbs : Words that modify or describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs.

Examples: quickly, very, well, loudly


5. Pronouns : Words that replace nouns in a sentence.

Examples: he, she, it, they, me

6. Prepositions : Words that show relationships between words or phrases.

Examples: in, on, at, by, with


7. Conjunctions : Words that connect words, phrases, or clauses.

Examples: and, but, or, so, yet


8. Interjections : Words that express emotions or feelings.

Examples: oh, wow, ouch, ah, hmm


9. Articles : Words that modify nouns and indicate whether they are specific or general.

Examples: the, a, an
