A lot of learning in college takes place outside of a typical classroom setting. In fact, students are often advised to spend two or three hours studying for every hour they spend in the classroom. A lot of these hours are devoted to homework assignments, essays, and studying, but you can deepen your understanding of a topic in other ways.

These strategies help you gain deep learning – to gain knowledge you can retain and apply, rather than simply learn something you will forget after you have completed your exam. In this section, we discuss ways you can enhance your learning, such as by talking to your professors, being honest, and examining your past performances.
