Improve your English! Learn new words and how to use active reading, grammar, and writing strategies to read and write English better at the A2 level.

Course Introduction:

In Unit 1, you will learn about the eight parts of speech and when each is used. You will learn how to recognize each part of speech and why using them correctly improves your communication skills. In Units 2 and 3, you will learn how to read actively by using context clues and other reading skills and see how reading more can help you expand your vocabulary. Unit 4 focuses on taking those reading skills and using them to help you write. By the end of ESL001, you'll be able to write a few sentences about your daily routine using the lessons on parts of speech, reading actively, and vocabulary to help you communicate clearly. Successful completion of ESL001 will prepare you for ESL002, where you will continue to improve your English reading and writing skills.

Improve your writing accuracy and fluency by developing your English grammar and writing skills and improving your reading and vocabulary.

Course Introduction:

Developing skills in a second language involves understanding how the language works and taking the time to practice using it. ESL002 encourages you to work with new grammar ideas and word choices and practice using those topics to write about yourself and develop your writing skills.

In Unit 1, you will learn how past and present tenses change the meaning of what you read and write. Unit 2 improves your ability to read actively as you skim, scan, and read intensively. In Unit 3, you will read more to collect new vocabulary and learn strategies to develop it more with synonyms, antonyms, and suffixes. Unit 4 brings these skills together as you write a narrative paragraph about something you learned in the past. By the end of ESL002, you will be able to use different tenses to describe past experiences and explain to a reader how you best learn.

Course Introduction:

Learning a new language requires you to pull together a variety of concepts and topics. By connecting your language skills, you are better able to explain yourself and write about your ideas. This course presents Standard American English grammar, vocabulary, and reading skills that work together to culminate in a complete essay.

In Unit 1, you will learn how sentences become clearer when tenses agree. You'll practice recognizing tenses to make your writing more coherent. Unit 2 builds your vocabulary by exploring synonyms and antonyms. In Unit 3, you will develop stronger reading skills when you practice making inferences and explaining your thoughts on what you've read. Unit 4 brings all these topics together as you write a short, cohesive essay about an article. By the end of this course, you will be able to describe your opinions about the things you read. This course is designed to help you use your new skills to communicate your ideas in a clear, thoughtful manner.

Course Introduction:

To communicate effectively in Standard American English, you need to link reading and writing skills at the C1 level. Using reading strategies to develop stronger writing skills allows you to build a stronger vocabulary and communicate your ideas to others. ESL004 is designed to help you make these connections in preparation for ENGL000 and future academic coursework.

In Unit 1, you will strengthen your grammar skills by learning the basics of punctuation. You'll examine how changing punctuation can change the entire meaning of a sentence. Unit 2 connects reading to building a robust vocabulary. You'll explore how mapping a reading allows you to find new words to explain things and see different concepts. Units 3 and 4 will help you build your academic vocabulary and learn how to integrate and evaluate sources in your work.

Course Introduction:

Doing business in English has its own set of guidelines and challenges. ESL005 explains how and why business documents are used and what kind of terminology you can expect to see in business settings. This course is designed to prepare you to use Standard American English in professional settings and further develop reading and writing skills. In Unit 1, you'll learn to identify and explain the key features and uses of common business correspondence genres, including emails, memos, and reports. Unit 2 focuses on developing strategies to help you communicate effectively and professionally in English business contexts, ensuring your messages are clear, concise, and respectful. Finally, in Unit 3, you'll master the etiquette of writing polite, error-free business emails, helping you build a professional and positive impression in any workplace. By the end of ESL005, you'll be able to recognize different business writing styles and know when to use them.
