Strategy: Using Context Clues

1. Find a piece of text (a book, article, or even a conversation.

2. When you come across a word you don’t know, read the surrounding sentences carefully

3. After figuring out the meaning of the word, try to guess its definition.

4. Use the new word in a sentence of your own to reinforce your learning.

Example:

If you read the sentence, "The scientist was meticulous in his experiments, ensuring that every detail was perfect," you might guess that meticulous means something like "careful" or "detailed." You could then confirm that meticulous means "showing great attention to detail" and try using it in your own sentence.
