SHA-256 is important in securing a blockchain. A blockchain block converts variable-length transaction data into a fixed-length sequence through hashing. Blockchain's unchangeable nature is maintained by linking blocks. Each block hashes the current transactions with the hash of the previous block. Altering any record changes future hashes significantly.
