The Sankore Madrasah of Timbuktu, shown in Figure 6.12, was one of the ancient centers of learning believed to have been established by Mansa Musa, the ruler of the Mali Empire from 1307 to 1332. The Sankore Madrasah structure dates to 988 AD.
