Kiribati and Sea Level Rise

Kiribati, an island group that spans 3.5 million square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean and extends into Polynesia and Micronesia, is at high risk if sea levels rise. Interestingly, Kiribati is the only country with land in all four hemispheres: north and south of the equator and on both sides of the 180° meridian. Figure 10.25 shows the extent of Kiribati and the shift of the International Dateline so all of Kiribati's islands are on the same day.
