This chapter provides an overview of project management, defining both projects and project management and exploring the difference between project management and operations management. Advances in technology are driving the speed of innovation and the ability of organizations to shorten the time needed to develop and deliver new products and services that increase an organization's competitive advantage. This drive to develop new and unique products or services creates a perfect environment for the application of project management methodologies and skills.
