Kiribati, an island group that spans 3.5 million km² of the Pacific Ocean and extends into Polynesia and Micronesia, is at high risk if sea levels rise. Interestingly, Kiribati is the only country with land in all four hemispheres: north and south of the equator and on both sides of the 180° meridian. Figure 10.25 shows the extent of Kiribati and the shift of the International Dateline so all of Kiribati's islands are in the same day.
